THE SHROUD OF TURIN

The shroud of turin is a length of linen cloth bearing a negative image of a man ( who is said to be jesus). The size of this shroud is said to be: 4.4×1.1m. The present location of this shroud is at the cathedral of saint John the Baptist , Turin, Italy. The distinctive characteristic is the faint , brownish image of a front and back view of a naked man with his hands folded across his groin. Some critics point out that it may not be a shroud at all. First instance was in 1353 or 1357 and first certain record in 1390 when bishop pierre d'Arcis wrote a memorandum to pope clement  stating that shroud was forgery and the artist had confessed. Shroud has been displayed since the 17th century. In 1532 , the shroud suffered damage from a fire in a chapel of chambery. Poor clave nuns attempted to repair damages with patches. A fire , caused due to arson , threatened the shroud on 11th April , 1997.
SUMMARY OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH :

  • Shroud has good resolution front and back images of a naked man that was crucified exactly as the New Testament says Jesus was crucified.
  • Proven in 1978 by the shroud of turin reserach project (STRUP) that the images are not due to pigment such as paint , stain or dye.
  • Above evidence states that images cannot be man made , either by an artist.
  • Interpretation of the results from carbon dating of the shroud (1260 to 1390 AD) is significantly flamed . The three categories of evidence are as follows:
  • Impossibility of forming image on the shroud between 1260 to 1390 AD.
  • Procedures of carbon dating in laborateries voilated international protocols.
  • Many evidences indicate the shroud is older than carbon dating date.
